Business Overview

I retired to Charlestown about six years ago and took the plunge into turning my ideas into a product. I invented and patented Hands on Heels® to solve my own frustration with callused feet. I was leery of getting pedicures that used harsh chemical peels, foot files and other instruments that could be unsanitary or lead to infection. I also was dismayed that several days after getting a pedicure my heels were rough again, especially after a day at the beach.

I tried many home products currently on the market but was never satisfied. Because these products only had one abrasive element, these “one size fits all” tools were either too coarse or not coarse enough. In addition, these tools were not flexible enough to reach calluses on areas such as on the ball of the foot or toes.

So, I set out to develop a solution that would not only be flexible but would incorporate three different abrasive levels: one to remove very rough and tough calluses, a medium level to refine the areas after using the coarser abrasive, and a third, finer abrasive to remove residue, and smooth and polish the heel and other parts of the foot. This third element would also be gentle enough to use on other parts of the body such as elbows or legs.

I also wanted to the product to provide a spa-like experience using soft, comfortable cotton gloves, and the convenience of being washable and reusable. After many months of trial and error, Hands on Heels® was conceived. These callus removing gloves have met my personal foot care needs and I hope they will for you as well!

Meet Your Seller

I am very excited to begin my first venture into owning a small business. I spent almost 30 years in higher education finance at the state level, advocating for student financial aid and support for public colleges and universities. From there, I went on to work for a private company to create and promote a financial literacy program for college students. Helping students learn to manage their money and the importance of financial stability and growth was an extremely rewarding experience. Since retiring here to Rhode Island, I have enjoyed volunteering for our local food pantry and thrift store, taking Zumba classes at the Y, spending lots of time in and on the water, traveling and reading. In creating Hands on Heels, I learned a great deal about the patent process, product development and materials sourcing that I would be happy to share.
