The DIVINE PROVIDENCE painting series, by RI-based multidisciplinary artist Umberto Crenca, is a loving but unsentimental glimpse into the corners, crevices and in-between spaces in which life happens in the capital city of Rhode Island. As one enthusiast of the Divine Providence series observed, “spending time with the paintings feels like taking a walk through the neighborhoods of Providence”. Each painting describes a particular neighborhood, but in a way that is intended to harken to a universal sense of “urban”.

DIVINE PROVIDENCE, VOLUME 1 consists of full-page color reproductions of the first 100 paintings in the series, made between February 2020 and June 2021. VOLUME 2 covers paintings 101 - 200. Both volumes contain essays reflecting on the series, plus full color indexes listing the specific neighborhoods rendered in each painting.

The set comes in a handsome keepsake box/sleeve.
